Pre-paid wireless broadband

A pre-paid wireless broadband service has been launched by gotalk communications and PBA (Personal Broadband Australia).

Gotalk claims that this is Australia's first pre-paid wireless broadband service. It will be available in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

The service will come with a free dial-up account, free VoIP (voice over internet protocol) account and a VoIP soft phone. Customers will not be locked into a contract and will only pay for what they use from 11.5c/Mb.

Steve Picton, CEO of gotalk, said: "All you need is an iBurst modem and off you go." Customers taking up the service can bring their own iBurst hardware or buy from gotalk.

"The 39c per day fee or around $10 per month is less than half of the traditional home fixed phone line rental charges. With gotalk prepaid offering VoIP, there is no need to have a landline and therefore no more line rental. You can choose your phone number or bring your own," said Picton.
