$11.3 million for WA 'Networking the Nation'

Telecommunications infrastructure and services in Western Australia will be boosted by $11.3 million from the Commonwealth Government's $421 million Networking the Nation (NtN) program, funded from the partial sale of Telstra, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Richard Alston and the Parliamentary Secretary, Senator Ian Campbell, announced.

The $11.3 million allocated in this round of Networking the Nation will assist communities with mobile telephony, public internet access and local government online service delivery and training, Senator Richard Alston said.

"Of the 11 projects in Western Australia announced today, I am particularly pleased that $5.6 million has been allocated for the extension and enhancement of online local government services provided to local communities across the vast expanse of Western Australia", Senator Ian Campbell said.

"Another important project is enabling local call internet access in the isolated exchange areas in Laverton, Salmon Gums, West Frankland and East Dalwallinu through the establishment of four Internet Points of Presence (POPs)", Senator Campbell said.
