Enterprise 2.0: Asia–Pacific's answer to economic slowdown

Global economic slowdown will soon push organisations in the Asia–Pacific region to employ social networking tools like blogs and wikis.

That’s the message from Frost & Sullivan’s recent report — Supercharging Innovation in Asia Pacific: The Impact of Enterprise 2.0 on Economies — in which the consulting firm predicts organisations in the Asia–Pacific region will embrace such social networking initiatives to gain a competitive edge.

“The analysis highlights three main factors driving the adoption of Enterprise 2.0 technologies: productivity, innovation and service,” a statement from the firm read.

But before organisations can reap benefits from social networking tools, they will have to come to grips with a loss of control over staff and customers.

“Usually the challenge with any new technology is to identify how to apply the tools for the greatest return. With Enterprise 2.0 it becomes a little trickier,” said Simon Hayes, senior industry analyst with the firm.

The report also cautions that companies should anticipate a boom in customer expectations around any social networking-based customer service.
