The wider business community is embracing the inaugural National ICT Careers week, with more companies outside the ICT sector taking part in the event.
The event, which will run from 28 July to 2 August, will include more than 100 activities and events presented by companies, educational institutions, government bodies and industry associations.
Westpac is one of the non-ICT companies getting involved in the event.
“Westpac is a proud employer of IT professionals and we're a strong supporter of the 2008 National ICT Careers Week,” said Diane Sias, group executive, business technology solutions and services at Westpac.
“Studying computing is the pathway to a rewarding career, particularly in the finance industry,” Sias said.
National ICT Careers Week is intended to convince students and their parents that a career in ICT is a rewarding one, with good employment opportunities and salaries.
“Working in ICT is about meeting people, understanding their problems and providing them with solutions that have utility and impact,” said Stuart Beil, general manager of enterprise search engine company Funnelback.
More information on the event is available at the National ICT Careers Week webpage.
