Merger gives organisation more 'clout'

The ICT Council and Electronic Industry Association (EIA) have merged to become the Electronics and ICT Association (EICTA).

Members of both organisations passed resolutions to merge because they recognised that consolidation would provide enhanced membership benefits and more powerful advocacy.

“These two industries complement each other and collectively have a lot more clout,” Steve Adcock, EICTA CEO, said.

“Many people don’t realise that there are more than 400 electronics companies in South Australia and about 1200 ICT companies. That equates to more than 30,000 people employed in these buoyant and dynamic companies.

“There is a negative sentiment sweeping this state with the closure of Mitsubishi, Motorola and other key employers … I aim to see the balance sheet tipped in favour of the electronics and ICT industries — this sector is growing faster than most other industries in this state,” said Adcock.

“When you consider that exports for the combined electronics and ICT industries equate to $2 billion and revenue equals $4.2 billion, then we are talking about a significant contributor to the state’s current and future economic growth.”

Adcock added that EICTA had received a $275,000 grant from the state government and aims to ensure that industry bears the benefit of this grant.
