Passengers on Qantas planes will soon have access to web-based chat and webmail facilities while mid-flight, following a successful demonstration of the new in-flight internet system.
Last week Qantas demonstrated its connectivity services, which offer passengers on the airline’s A380 access to Webchat and Webmail services from in-flight connectivity provider OnAir.
The Webmail system supports several common webmail services, including Gmail and Hotmail.
Supported chat services include Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.
The plane will debut on 20 October, offering passengers in its 450 seats the ability to use the web-based facilities.
OnAir CEO Benoit Debians said: “We are very pleased that Qantas has chosen OnAir’s connectivity services for this prestigious aircraft. It is also a great honour for OnAir to be the first passenger communications service provider on the A380.”
