Secure delivery of data across IP networks

Equant announced a new technology that accelerates the secure delivery of data across Internet Protocol (IP) networks and makes it easier for companies to migrate to state-of-the-art IP-based virtual private networks (VPNs).

The new technology, Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS), adds extra addressing information, known as a "header," to the IP packets that travel across the core of Equant's global IP network.

The header provides a more precise network address than traditional IP addressing, just as an extended nine-digit zip code on a postal package provides a more precise postal address than a standard five-digit zip code.

MPLS solves this addressing problem and enables companies to implement IP-VPNs.

Now customers can use a single access for all their business needs supported by business-focused service level agreements.
