Quantum has announced the largest three models in its DXi6500 midrange NAS backup and deduplication appliances - the DXi6530, DXi6540 and DXi6550. They provide up to 25% higher throughput, at a maximum adaptive ingest rate of 2.5 TB/h.

The models scale from 24 to 56 TB usable capacity and come with software for a complete backup solution. The DXi6540 and DXi6550 also provide integrated tape creation and the DXi6550 has 10GbE connectivity. They are user and channel installable.

Each model of the DXi6500 range includes a simple NAS interface, built-in deduplication and replication, support for Symantec’s OpenStorage (OST) API and backup software for VMware environments. The DXi6500 range has deduplication technology that reduces typical disk needs by 90%. Users protecting remote offices can leverage replication to reduce typical bandwidth needs by a factor of 20 or more. Users benefit from the integration of disk and tape and the ability to use backup management software for unified management across sites and tiers.

The range includes support for OST API with NetBackup and Backup Exec 2010, enabling centralised management of backup, restore, replication and tape creation. Direct tape creation that bypasses the media server for higher performance is supported on NetBackup 6.5.4 and higher with the DXi6540 and DXi6550.

The range includes the latest Quantum esXpress backup module optimised for VMware software. The Quantum esXpress in the DXi series supports ESX 3.5 and vSphere 4 servers from VMware and has global configuration policies to manage all configuration and deployment functions from a single point.
