The revised version of the Blue Coat CacheFlow 5000 appliance comes in a 4U footprint and offers greater throughput and cache storage than previous iterations of the product.

The appliance includes IPv6 support to address the networking requirements of large service providers. Performance improvements help support the delivery of rich Web 2.0 content.

By combining caching intelligence with platform performance, the appliance can better prepare service providers for increases in their subscribers’ demand for content.

One included feature is the CachePulse cloud service, which delivers on-the-fly caching rule and instruction updates to deployed CacheFlow appliances, to provide sustained high-bandwidth savings. The CachePulse service uses a complete feedback loop to know how the web is changing and to identify shifts in how popular sites are delivering content, as well as to include optimisations for new and emerging websites.

The appliance features 64-bit software and hardware improvements. There is also an option for 10GigE fibre, in addition to existing copper, to support high-speed network interfaces.

For existing CacheFlow customers, an in-rack upgrade is commercially available.
