Virtualisation focuses on the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of a specific IT resource, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or networking equipment, with the goal of saving money without reducing coverage and power. The three areas of IT where virtualisation is making most impact are network virtualisation, storage virtualisation and server virtualisation.
